About this rug

This rug takes a Persian-style design of large palmettes, rosettes and leafy scrolling vines and sets it on a charcoal gray field. Rust, gold, tan and brick red carry the flowers. A pale dusty blue border between rust guard stripes frames the whole piece. The cool charcoal and blue give the classic drawing a current feel, so it sits well in both traditional and modern rooms. It is hand tufted in India with a 100% wool face on a canvas backing. The medium pile is 0.39 in and soft underfoot. The rug is 0.87 in thick overall, so measure the gap under any door it needs to clear. Expect some shedding at first. Sizes run from an 18" sample to 12' x 15', with runners, rounds, squares, ovals and a half-circle, and custom sizes are available. The 8' x 10' size measures 7'6" x 9'6". Place it under a sofa group, a dining table or a bed. Spot clean only with mild detergent. Keep it out of strong direct sun, and use a cushioned felt pad, since the back has no grip.

How this rug is made, and what it is made of

Construction

Hand tufted

Yarn is punched through a canvas with a hand-held tufting tool, then sheared to an even, plush pile and backed for strength. It has the look and feel of a knotted rug, made in weeks rather than months, at a gentler price.

Material

Wool

Naturally springy, so the pile stands back up after furniture and footsteps. Its lanolin helps it shed spills and dirt, it holds deep color for decades, and New Zealand wool, used in many of our rugs, is among the softest grades.
