About this rug

This rug borrows its design from classic Persian workshop rugs. A warm taupe-gray field carries scrolling vines, a gold eight-petal rosette at the center, heart-shaped palmettes to each side and four large cream-and-gold palmettes in the quarters. A wide light beige border with gold cloud bands and rust-centered rosettes frames the field, between two dotted guard bands and a narrow gray outer edge. Muted gold, rust-brown and small touches of dusty aqua carry the motifs. It is hand tufted in India with a 100% wool face on a canvas backing. The cut pile is 0.39 inches high, level and matte, and the rug is 0.87 inches thick in all, so it feels soft underfoot. The edge is clean, with no fringe. Like any new tufted wool rug, it sheds at first. It suits a living room, a bedroom or a dining room with careful diners. The size in the 8x10 group measures 7'6" × 9'6". At its thickness it will not pass under most doors, and it is not pet friendly or made for high traffic. Across the photos the field reads from soft mid gray to near charcoal, so the 18" sample is the surest color check. Spot clean only, with a mild detergent; it is not washable. The canvas back has no grip, so lay it on a rug pad, and keep it out of strong sun, as it is not fade resistant.

How this rug is made, and what it is made of

Construction

Hand tufted

Yarn is punched through a canvas with a hand-held tufting tool, then sheared to an even, plush pile and backed for strength. It has the look and feel of a knotted rug, made in weeks rather than months, at a gentler price.

Material

Wool

Naturally springy, so the pile stands back up after furniture and footsteps. Its lanolin helps it shed spills and dirt, it holds deep color for decades, and New Zealand wool, used in many of our rugs, is among the softest grades.
