About this rug

A traditional Persian-style rug, hand-tufted in India of 100% wool. Mahal-style palmettes, rosettes and serrated leaves are joined by scrolling vines across a pale cream field. A wide camel border of rosettes and diamond cartouches frames it, edged with narrow dark brown guard borders. Rust, dark brown, olive, sage and soft dusty blue pick out the flowers. The medium wool pile stands 0.39 in, and the rug is 0.87 in thick overall on a canvas backing, so it feels soft and full underfoot. It sheds at first, as new wool does. The light field keeps a busy floral from feeling heavy, so it works in a formal living room, a dining room or a bedroom with wood furniture and warm neutrals. Sizes run from a 2' × 3' mat to 12' × 15', with runners, rounds, squares, ovals, a half-circle and custom sizes. The size sold as 8' × 10' measures 7'6" × 9'6". Spot clean only with mild detergent. Use a pad, since the back has no grip, and keep it out of strong sun.

How this rug is made, and what it is made of

Construction

Hand tufted

Yarn is punched through a canvas with a hand-held tufting tool, then sheared to an even, plush pile and backed for strength. It has the look and feel of a knotted rug, made in weeks rather than months, at a gentler price.

Material

Wool

Naturally springy, so the pile stands back up after furniture and footsteps. Its lanolin helps it shed spills and dirt, it holds deep color for decades, and New Zealand wool, used in many of our rugs, is among the softest grades.
