About this rug
This hand-tufted rug lays an all-over scroll of Indo-Persian flowers across a jet-black field. On the larger rectangles, two big fan palmettes sit on the center line, with mirrored lotus palmettes at the sides and small star flowers, buds and leaves on tan vines. The flowers are cream, wheat, camel, caramel, sage and brick red. A narrow camel edge frames it instead of a wide border, and there is no fringe. Some photos show the black softer, near charcoal; expect the deeper black of the main photo. The face is 100% wool, tufted by hand into a dense 0.39-inch medium cut pile on a canvas backing, 0.87 inch thick. It is soft underfoot and matte, and it is made in India. Each shape is drawn for itself: the runners carry smaller, denser flowers and the smallest rugs fewer, bolder ones. The rug in the 8' × 10' size group measures 7'6" × 9'6", and the 10' round and square measure 9'9". It suits a living room, bedroom, dining room or study, where the black anchors the space and solid upholstery lets the pattern lead. New wool sheds at first, and lint and footprints show on the plain black. The back has no grip, so use a cushioned felt pad, and measure the gap under any door, as most clear about 0.4 inch. It is not solution-dyed, so keep it out of strong sun. Larger sizes are heavy and take two people to move. Spot clean only, with a mild detergent.

Construction
Hand tufted
Yarn is punched through a canvas with a hand-held tufting tool, then sheared to an even, plush pile and backed for strength. It has the look and feel of a knotted rug, made in weeks rather than months, at a gentler price.

Material
Wool
Naturally springy, so the pile stands back up after furniture and footsteps. Its lanolin helps it shed spills and dirt, it holds deep color for decades, and New Zealand wool, used in many of our rugs, is among the softest grades.
