About this rug

This rug takes a classic floral and lightens it. Palmettes, rosettes and feathered leaves repeat across a light gray ground, joined by fine brown vines, with touches of rust, red, gold, sage, aqua and peach. A slim gold band frames the edge. The design has no center medallion, so it reads evenly from any side of the room and sits easily between classic and current furniture. It is hand tufted in India from 100% wool, with a medium cut pile about 0.4 in high on a canvas backing. The rug is about 0.9 in thick overall and soft underfoot, with no fringe. Expect some shedding at first, as with most wool rugs. Sizes run from a 2' × 3' mat to 12' × 15', with 2'6" × 8' and 3' × 12' runners, rounds and squares, ovals and a 2' × 4' half-circle. The size in the 8' × 10' slot measures 7'6" × 9'6". Custom sizes are available, and some sizes are made to order, which can take several months. It suits a living room, a dining nook or a bedroom. Spot clean only, with a mild detergent. The back has no grip, so use a pad, and keep it out of strong sun.

How this rug is made, and what it is made of

Construction

Hand tufted

Yarn is punched through a canvas with a hand-held tufting tool, then sheared to an even, plush pile and backed for strength. It has the look and feel of a knotted rug, made in weeks rather than months, at a gentler price.

Material

Wool

Naturally springy, so the pile stands back up after furniture and footsteps. Its lanolin helps it shed spills and dirt, it holds deep color for decades, and New Zealand wool, used in many of our rugs, is among the softest grades.
