About this rug

This rug carries a Persian-style design: an open lattice of scrolling beige vines with four large ivory palmettes, olive-gold cloud-band leaves, burgundy-rose blossoms and dusty blue leaves on a rust-terracotta ground. A narrow plain ivory band frames the field, with no fringe. The pattern mirrors in every direction, so it has no top. It is hand-tufted in India with a 100% wool face on a canvas backing. The medium cut pile is 0.39" high and the rug is 0.87" thick overall, soft underfoot and matte. Like most cut wool, it looks lighter from one side and darker from the other, and new tufted wool sheds at first. It belongs in living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms, not kitchens, baths, entries or busy halls. Each shape has its own fitted drawing, from the 2'6" × 8' runner to the 12' × 15'. Three sizes run small: the rectangle filed as 8' × 10' measures 7'6" × 9'6", and the 10' round and 10' square each measure 9'9". The ground reads rust, not pink or coral, so judge the color by the product photo rather than the video. Spot clean only with mild detergent; it is not washable. The canvas back has no grip, so use a cushioned felt pad on hard floors, and measure the gap under any door that must swing over it. Keep it out of strong sun and rotate it every 6 to 12 months.

How this rug is made, and what it is made of

Construction

Hand tufted

Yarn is punched through a canvas with a hand-held tufting tool, then sheared to an even, plush pile and backed for strength. It has the look and feel of a knotted rug, made in weeks rather than months, at a gentler price.

Material

Wool

Naturally springy, so the pile stands back up after furniture and footsteps. Its lanolin helps it shed spills and dirt, it holds deep color for decades, and New Zealand wool, used in many of our rugs, is among the softest grades.
