About this rug

This is a traditional rug drawn in the Persian way. Large palmettes and rosettes, joined by scrolling vines, spread evenly over a deep red field, and a plain tan band frames all four sides. Cream, tan, olive, light gray and dark brown fill the flowers, with small touches of rust and gold. The red reads clear in daylight and deeper, closer to wine, in low light. It is hand tufted in India with a 100% wool face on a canvas backing. The pile is medium, about 3/8 inch, and the rug is about 7/8 inch thick overall, so it feels soft underfoot. Like most wool rugs, it sheds at first. The design fills the whole field, so it suits a living room, dining room, bedroom or hall that wants warmth and color. Sizes run from a 2' x 3' mat to 12' x 15', with runners, rounds, squares, ovals and a half-circle, and custom sizes can be ordered. The rectangle in the 8' x 10' spot measures 7'6" x 9'6". The oval is a full 8' x 10'. Spot clean only, with mild detergent. Keep it out of strong, direct sun. Lay it on a cushioned felt pad, since the back has no grip.

How this rug is made, and what it is made of

Construction

Hand tufted

Yarn is punched through a canvas with a hand-held tufting tool, then sheared to an even, plush pile and backed for strength. It has the look and feel of a knotted rug, made in weeks rather than months, at a gentler price.

Material

Wool

Naturally springy, so the pile stands back up after furniture and footsteps. Its lanolin helps it shed spills and dirt, it holds deep color for decades, and New Zealand wool, used in many of our rugs, is among the softest grades.
