About this rug

This rug takes the large, widely spaced palmettes and thin vines of an Oushak and softens them into warm taupe, cream, wheat and a few caramel-gold blooms. A cream border with a small vine frames the field. The contrast is low, so the pattern looks quiet from across a room and more detailed up close. It is hand tufted in India with a 100% wool face and a medium pile about 1/2 in tall, on a canvas backing. The blossoms stand a touch higher and loopier than the ground, which gives it a nubby, hand-drawn feel. It is soft underfoot and rated for high traffic. Wool sheds at first. Sizes run from 2' × 3' to 9' × 12', plus an 18 in sample. The 5' × 7'6" is 6 in shorter than a standard 5' × 8'. Custom sizes up to 12' × 18' and rounds can be made. It suits a living room, dining room or bedroom that mixes wood, linen and classic shapes. Spot clean only, with water. It has no grip back, so use a felt-and-rubber pad, and keep it out of strong sun.

How this rug is made, and what it is made of

Construction

Hand tufted

Yarn is punched through a canvas with a hand-held tufting tool, then sheared to an even, plush pile and backed for strength. It has the look and feel of a knotted rug, made in weeks rather than months, at a gentler price.

Material

Wool

Naturally springy, so the pile stands back up after furniture and footsteps. Its lanolin helps it shed spills and dirt, it holds deep color for decades, and New Zealand wool, used in many of our rugs, is among the softest grades.
