About this rug
This area rug takes a classic Oushak-style floral and quiets it down. Sand-tan rosettes and palmettes, ivory outlines with a faint blush and small sage-gray sprigs sit on a pale oatmeal ground. There is no border and no fringe, so the design runs to every edge. The low contrast keeps it calm from across a room. It is hand tufted in India with a 100% wool face on a canvas backing. The medium pile is 1/2 inch of curly wool loops, with the motifs a little fuller than the ground, and the rug is 3/4 inch thick overall. It is soft underfoot, springy rather than plush. Like most new wool, it sheds at first. The 8' × 10' suits an 84-inch sofa with chairs, front legs on, a queen bed set crosswise or a six-seat dining table. The 9' × 12' takes a larger group or a king bed, and the 5' × 7'6" a loveseat corner. The back has no grip, so use a felt-and-rubber pad. With the pad the rug stands nearly 1 inch tall, too thick for most doors. Spot clean only, with water only. It is not washable, and the pale ground shows spills. On a wood floor the oatmeal reads a little deeper and grayer than in the bright photo on white.

Construction
Hand tufted
Yarn is punched through a canvas with a hand-held tufting tool, then sheared to an even, plush pile and backed for strength. It has the look and feel of a knotted rug, made in weeks rather than months, at a gentler price.

Material
Wool
Naturally springy, so the pile stands back up after furniture and footsteps. Its lanolin helps it shed spills and dirt, it holds deep color for decades, and New Zealand wool, used in many of our rugs, is among the softest grades.
