About this rug

This hand-tufted rug has a 100% wool face in soft sage gray-green, drawn with a fine ivory grid of narrow bars set in offset rows, like stacked tile with pale grout. The drawing is loose on purpose, so the lines wobble and shift at every row. The grid runs edge to edge with no border and no fringe, finished by a narrow sage edge. The bars are dense cut pile and the ivory lines are rows of small loops set a touch lower, so it feels soft underfoot with a fine ridge. It is 0.51 in thick with a medium pile. Made in India, it comes in sizes from an 18" sample to 12' × 15', plus a 3' × 10' runner, custom sizes and rounds. It suits a calm modern, Scandinavian or Japandi living room or bedroom, and a dining room at 8' × 10' and up. The colorway is named olive, but it reads as a soft sage, lighter than olive and grayer from across a room; the 18" sample shows it in your own light. The 5' × 8' size is really 5' × 7'6". Care is professional rug cleaning only; it is not washable, so blot spills right away. New wool sheds at first. The plain cloth back has no grip, so use a rug pad, and measure the gap under any nearby door. It is not made for high traffic, the looped lines can catch claws, and the 8' × 10' weighs about 82 lb.

How this rug is made, and what it is made of

Construction

Hand tufted

Yarn is punched through a canvas with a hand-held tufting tool, then sheared to an even, plush pile and backed for strength. It has the look and feel of a knotted rug, made in weeks rather than months, at a gentler price.

Material

Wool

Naturally springy, so the pile stands back up after furniture and footsteps. Its lanolin helps it shed spills and dirt, it holds deep color for decades, and New Zealand wool, used in many of our rugs, is among the softest grades.
