About this rug

This hand-tufted rug has a 100% wool face in a soft wheat, drawn with thin ivory lines into rows of upright bars, like stacked tiles. The bars are dense cut pile; the lines are tight loops that seem to sit a little lower, so the surface has a fine ribbed feel. There is no border and no fringe, and the grid runs cleanly to every edge. Contrast is low, so from across the room it reads as a warm, pale field with fine lines. It suits a calm living room or bedroom. An 8' × 10' takes an 84-inch sofa with the front legs on, or a queen bed laid crosswise. Sizes run from a 2' × 3' and a 3' × 10' runner up to 12' × 15', and custom sizes from 2' to 10' wide and 3' to 14' long can be made, rounds included. The size listed as 5x8 measures 5' × 7'6". The ground is a muted wheat, not a bright yellow; the product photo shows it best, and angled shots look more golden. Care is professional rug cleaning only, so it is not washable. New tufted wool sheds at first, for weeks to months. It has no grip back, so use a rug pad. At 0.51 inch thick it may not clear an inside door; measure the gap first. The 8' × 10' ships rolled at about 84 lb, so plan on two people.

How this rug is made, and what it is made of

Construction

Hand tufted

Yarn is punched through a canvas with a hand-held tufting tool, then sheared to an even, plush pile and backed for strength. It has the look and feel of a knotted rug, made in weeks rather than months, at a gentler price.

Material

Wool

Naturally springy, so the pile stands back up after furniture and footsteps. Its lanolin helps it shed spills and dirt, it holds deep color for decades, and New Zealand wool, used in many of our rugs, is among the softest grades.
