About this rug

This hand-tufted rug has a 100% wool face in soft off-white. Its pattern is carved, not colored: rows of narrow vertical bars in dense cut pile, set off by lower looped channels, with the joints offset from row to row like stacked tile. From standing height it reads almost plain, and in side light the ribbed grid comes forward. There is no border and no fringe; the grid runs to every edge. The medium pile is 0.31 inch deep, 0.51 inch overall, soft underfoot and matte. It is made in India. On its own it reads off-white; beside wood floors and in warm light it turns a warmer ivory, not beige. It suits a calm living room or bedroom. The 8' × 10' takes an 84-inch sofa with front legs on or a queen bed crosswise; the 9' × 12' fits a king bed or an 8-seat table. The 5' × 7'6" is 6 inches shorter than a 5' × 8'. Custom sizes from 2' × 3' to 10' × 14', and rounds, are made to order with a long lead time. Professional rug cleaning only; it is not washable. New wool sheds at first, for weeks to months, so vacuum without a beater bar. The back has no grip, so use a pad on hard floors, and at 0.51 inch plus the pad, check the gap under any door nearby. It is not pet or kid friendly and not made for high traffic, rolling chairs, kitchens or baths.
