About this rug

This hand-tufted rug has an all-over windowpane grid. Raised ivory lines frame small squares of heathered blue loops, from powder blue and blue-gray to soft denim with a few navy strands, so no two squares match. There is no border and no fringe, only a slim blue wrapped edge, and no top or bottom, so it can face any direction. The face is 100% wool in a low loop pile, 0.3 inch deep and about half an inch thick overall. It is made in India. The ivory lines are a thicker loop than the squares, which gives the matte surface a gentle nubby relief. The squares look to be roughly 1 to 2 inches at every size, so an 8' × 10' reads as a finer blue texture than the full-rug photo. It suits a calm bedroom or living room, coastal or modern, with light upholstery and pale wood. Sizes run from 2' × 3' to 12' × 15', plus a 3' × 10' runner and custom sizes. The 5' × 8' size measures 5' × 7'6". Care is professional rug cleaning only; it is not washable, so blot spills right away. The cloth back has no grip, so use a rug pad on hard floors. New wool sheds at first and settles with gentle vacuuming. At about half an inch thick before a pad, it may catch a low door, so measure the gap first.

How this rug is made, and what it is made of

Construction

Hand tufted

Yarn is punched through a canvas with a hand-held tufting tool, then sheared to an even, plush pile and backed for strength. It has the look and feel of a knotted rug, made in weeks rather than months, at a gentler price.

Material

Wool

Naturally springy, so the pile stands back up after furniture and footsteps. Its lanolin helps it shed spills and dirt, it holds deep color for decades, and New Zealand wool, used in many of our rugs, is among the softest grades.
