About this rug

This rug is hand tufted in India with a 100% wool face. Raised ivory lines draw a fine windowpane grid over lower cells of oatmeal and gray-beige heather, with sparse charcoal flecks. The grid runs to every edge, with no border and no fringe. Up close it reads as a grid. From across the room it softens into a warm ivory texture. Faint bands appear where some rows carry more dark yarn. They are part of the handmade look and fall differently on every rug. The low pile stands 0.3" and the rug is 0.5" overall. Both buyers call it thick, and one finds it good to walk on. It feels nubby and textured rather than plush. Sizes run from 2' × 3' to 12' × 15', plus a full 3' × 10' runner and custom sizes and rounds. The 5' × 8' size measures 5' × 7'6". It suits calm living rooms, bedrooms and wide halls with light oak, cane, gray upholstery and black or brass. Care is spot clean only with no moisture, so keep it away from sinks and baths. It is not washable, and the wool sheds at first. There is no grip back, so use a pad on hard floors. At 0.5" it is thicker than most door gaps, so measure first. Judge the color by the product photo: it reads warm ivory and gray-beige, not blue.

How this rug is made, and what it is made of

Construction

Hand tufted

Yarn is punched through a canvas with a hand-held tufting tool, then sheared to an even, plush pile and backed for strength. It has the look and feel of a knotted rug, made in weeks rather than months, at a gentler price.

Material

Wool

Naturally springy, so the pile stands back up after furniture and footsteps. Its lanolin helps it shed spills and dirt, it holds deep color for decades, and New Zealand wool, used in many of our rugs, is among the softest grades.
