About this rug

This rug has a 100% wool face, hand tufted in India on a canvas backing. Three lengthwise panels are filled with horizontal stripes that step out of line where the panels meet, so the seams read like staggered brickwork. The stripes come from two loop heights: taller, heathered loops in warm sand and beige over lower, tighter loops in light brown. From across a room it reads as a calm, textured tan with a light-brown undertone, not a dark brown. It can look a shade deeper in dim light than in the bright product photo. The 2'6" × 8' runner has a narrower center panel and fainter stripes, so it reads calmer and closer to solid than the area rugs. It suits a living room or bedroom that wants texture without busy pattern, and it is rated for high traffic. The pile is 0.31 inch and soft underfoot, and new wool sheds at first, for weeks to months. At 0.51 inch thick, more with a pad, it is taller than most door gaps, so measure the gap first. The plain canvas back needs a rug pad on hard floors, and it is not for rolling office chairs. Care is professional rug cleaning only; it is not washable. Sizes are 2' × 3', 2'6" × 8', 5' × 7'6", 8' × 10' and 9' × 12', with custom sizes and rounds made to order. The two largest sizes weigh over 80 pounds and take two people to move.

How this rug is made, and what it is made of

Construction

Hand tufted

Yarn is punched through a canvas with a hand-held tufting tool, then sheared to an even, plush pile and backed for strength. It has the look and feel of a knotted rug, made in weeks rather than months, at a gentler price.

Material

Wool

Naturally springy, so the pile stands back up after furniture and footsteps. Its lanolin helps it shed spills and dirt, it holds deep color for decades, and New Zealand wool, used in many of our rugs, is among the softest grades.
