About this rug

This rug takes a classic Mahal-style design and draws it in deep, rich color. Large palmettes, rosettes and long feathered leaves, joined by fine scrolling vines, repeat across a black field. Camel, tan, ivory, sage, soft blue-gray, gold and burgundy pick out the ornament, and a sage-green border with camel guard stripes frames it. It is hand tufted in India from 100% wool, with a 0.4 in medium pile on a canvas back, about 0.6 in thick overall. The pile is soft underfoot. Like most hand-tufted wool, it sheds at first. The black field anchors a living room, dining room or study, and it sits well with light upholstery, gray leather and dark wood. Sizes run from a 2' x 3' mat to 9' x 13', with 2'3" wide runners up to 14 ft long and rounds of 3'6", 6' and 8'. Custom rectangles are made to order. Spot clean only, with water only; it is not washable. There is no grip back, so use a felt-and-rubber pad, and keep it out of strong sun, since it is not fade resistant.
