About this rug

This Foca rug is hand tufted in India with a 100% wool face on a canvas back. Its design is all texture. Fine ribbed rows change direction to draw a wide frame, a long center panel and small squares at each inner corner, all in one warm taupe. Up close the lines show. From across the room it reads as a calm, nearly solid rug. The pile is 0.31 in and the rug is 0.51 in thick overall, so it is soft underfoot without being plush. The yarn carries a light fleck of lighter and darker taupe. The color reads grayer in daylight and browner under lamps. It suits a living room, bedroom or quiet dining room where a patterned rug would feel like too much. Sizes run from 2' x 3' to 10' x 14', plus a 2'6" x 8' runner and an 18 in sample. Custom sizes, round included, are available. The 5' x 7'6" is 6 in shorter than a standard 5' x 8'. Care is professional rug cleaning only. Like most wool rugs, it sheds at first. The back has no grip, so lay it on a cushioned felt pad.

How this rug is made, and what it is made of

Construction

Hand tufted

Yarn is punched through a canvas with a hand-held tufting tool, then sheared to an even, plush pile and backed for strength. It has the look and feel of a knotted rug, made in weeks rather than months, at a gentler price.

Material

Wool

Naturally springy, so the pile stands back up after furniture and footsteps. Its lanolin helps it shed spills and dirt, it holds deep color for decades, and New Zealand wool, used in many of our rugs, is among the softest grades.
