About this rug

This hand-tufted rug has a 100% wool face and is made in India. A warm ivory field with fine taupe-gray heather streaks is divided into faint vertical panels. Each panel carries charcoal bars one panel long, alone or in groups of two, four or five, staggered so no row lines up. Ribbed charcoal and ivory bands are tufted into both short ends. There is no fringe. The surface is a low, tight loop pile, 0.24" deep and 0.39" thick overall. It is matte and firm, not plush. Buyers call it thick; it is dense rather than deep. New wool sheds for the first few weeks. From across a room the bars read black. In daylight the ivory looks a little cooler and grayer than in the studio photos. On the runners and the 2' × 3', three panels make the bars bolder. It is rated for high traffic and low profile. It suits halls, entries and dining rooms, and sits easily with black chairs, oak and white walls. Sizes run from an 18" sample to 12' × 15', with 2'6" × 8' and 2'6" × 10' runners, 6' and 8' rounds, an 8' square and custom sizes. The 5x8 is 5' × 7'6". Spot clean only, with water only. It is not washable. There is no grip back, so use a thin pad on hard floors, and measure under any door it must pass. Keep it out of strong sun and rotate it every 6 to 12 months.

How this rug is made, and what it is made of

Construction

Hand tufted

Yarn is punched through a canvas with a hand-held tufting tool, then sheared to an even, plush pile and backed for strength. It has the look and feel of a knotted rug, made in weeks rather than months, at a gentler price.

Material

Wool

Naturally springy, so the pile stands back up after furniture and footsteps. Its lanolin helps it shed spills and dirt, it holds deep color for decades, and New Zealand wool, used in many of our rugs, is among the softest grades.
