About this rug

This rug is hand tufted in India, with a 100% wool face on a canvas backing. It has no motif, border or fringe. The whole surface is rows of rounded wool loops, fat and thin in turn, in a heathered ivory and bone mixed with oatmeal, light greige and pale gray. Sparse brown and charcoal flecks, and the odd rust one, gather in faint streaks that fall a little differently on every rug. The pile is 0.4 inch on a total of half an inch. It is soft underfoot but firm and springy rather than plush, and like most new wool it sheds at first. It is not pet friendly, as the loops can catch claws. It is not washable, so the light ivory suits rooms where spills are rare. It suits living rooms and bedrooms. The 8' × 10' takes an 84 in sofa with the front legs on, or a queen bed laid crosswise. The size filed under 5x8 measures 5' × 7'6". Keep it away from kitchens, baths, entries, busy halls and strong sun. Use a pad on hard floors and check the gap under doors. The 9' × 12' and larger weigh over 60 lb, so plan on two people to move them. Care is professional rug cleaning only.

How this rug is made, and what it is made of

Construction

Hand tufted

Yarn is punched through a canvas with a hand-held tufting tool, then sheared to an even, plush pile and backed for strength. It has the look and feel of a knotted rug, made in weeks rather than months, at a gentler price.

Material

Wool

Naturally springy, so the pile stands back up after furniture and footsteps. Its lanolin helps it shed spills and dirt, it holds deep color for decades, and New Zealand wool, used in many of our rugs, is among the softest grades.
