About this rug
Hand woven in India from 100% wool, this rug is a chunky weave with no cut pile. Rows of plump, rounded pebble knots alternate with flatter rope-like braids in bands across the width, so the surface looks like thick knitwear. The yarn is ivory with light gray strands marled through it. From across a room it reads as gray-flecked ivory with a heathered texture, not a pure white. There is no border and no fringe, only a thin flat binding at each end. It has no backing and stands just under 1 inch thick, with a firm, springy, knobby feel and a matte finish. The bands stay the same size at every rug size, so a small rug shows a few bold bands and a large one reads as fine texture. Sizes run from 2' × 3' to 12' × 15', with a 2'6" × 10' runner and custom sizes. It is rated for high traffic and suits a living room, a bedroom or a hall where no door swings over it. Spot clean only, with water only. It is not washable. New wool sheds at first and can carry a smell for a few days, so unroll it somewhere airy. On hard floors, lay a cushioned rug pad 2 inches smaller each way beneath it. Keep it out of strong sun. The larger sizes are heavy and take two people to move.

Construction
Hand woven
Woven by hand on a loom, warp and weft interlaced row by row. Most hand-woven rugs are flatweaves with no pile to crush or shed, so they stay low, light and easy to move: right for busy rooms, hallways and dining tables.

Wool
Naturally springy, so the pile stands back up after furniture and footsteps. Its lanolin helps it shed spills and dirt, it holds deep color for decades, and New Zealand wool, used in many of our rugs, is among the softest grades.
