About this rug

This hand-tufted rug is all texture and no color change. Raised blocks of curly wool pile sit in rows, separated by low, flat channels, so the surface forms a soft grid in one warm ivory. From across the room it looks almost solid. Up close, the blocks and lines come forward. The face is 100% wool, hand tufted in India, with a 0.4 in pile, a total thickness of 0.5 in and a canvas backing. There is no fringe. The medium pile is soft underfoot, and the rug is rated for high traffic. It suits a calm living room or bedroom where the rest of the room carries the color: light upholstery, pale wood, linen. Sizes run from 2' x 3' to 12' x 15', with a 3' x 10' runner. Custom sizes, including round, are available. Spot clean only, with water only. Like most new wool rugs, it sheds at first. Use a felt-and-rubber pad to keep it in place, and keep it out of strong sun.

How this rug is made, and what it is made of

Construction

Hand tufted

Yarn is punched through a canvas with a hand-held tufting tool, then sheared to an even, plush pile and backed for strength. It has the look and feel of a knotted rug, made in weeks rather than months, at a gentler price.

Material

Wool

Naturally springy, so the pile stands back up after furniture and footsteps. Its lanolin helps it shed spills and dirt, it holds deep color for decades, and New Zealand wool, used in many of our rugs, is among the softest grades.
